I am the co-founder of Bonding Beyond Borders, Meth-Lab, ReproducibiliTea Leuven, and the Violence, Instability, and Peace (VIP) workshops. Currently, I am still co-organizing the VIP workshops. I also co-convened the 2023 Politicologenetmaal (or: Annual Political Science Workshops of the Low Countries). Feel free to reach out to me for more information on any of those initiatives.

The pictures below are from the Bonding Beyond Borders card game.

BONDING BEYOND BORDERS

Together with a motivated group of undergraduate students, I developed a card-game and online campaign aimed at tackling stereotypes and prejudices at a young age. The main goal of the game, called Bonding Beyond Borders, is to empower teachers to talk about sensitive and controversial topics in their classroom. The game builds upon academic insights from the intergroup contact theory. More specifically, the “true or false” questions on the blue play-cards are aimed at increasing knowledge on potentially controversial topics (such as immigration, religion, and terrorism). Second, the red cards are designed to increase empathy toward people from different backgrounds as the players have to watch a first-hand testimony and respectfully discuss a question related to this testimony. Last, the yellow cards create a safe and fun environment by including multicultural games and creative challenges (such as “make a picture to commemorate the victims of terrorism all over the world”). Our project won the First Prize in the Spring 2018 Facebook Global Digital Challenge. Since then, we turned our prototype game into a professional card-game with an accompanying small-sized business.
